"Please be careful tonight."
"Drive safe."
"Let me know when you get there."
These are all things that I have said to people that I love. I'll watch my husband drive away for military training and pray for God to place His hand of protection over Jon during travel.
Sometimes I'm afraid not to say "drive safe" because I might get "that" phone call. That dreadful phone call about your loved one being hurt in an accident. Sometimes I'm afraid because... that phone call had once been about me.
I know all too well how quickly life can change by making one decision. In an instant your life can be turned upside-down by the loss of a loved one or by a mistake that you yourself had made.
It's almost like saying little prayers by telling someone to "be careful". Almost as if we don't trust God when we say it. Has he not protected us from danger our whole lives?
There will be a point in your life when life as you know it seems to crumble - whether it's a death, a difficult health concern or loss of a job. Nothing ever stays the same. Life will change no matter how hard we try or how long we pray.
Change is inevitable. Even unwelcomed change.
When change occurs it's just a reminder of how little we can control and how much the Lord controls. Despite the hurt or disappointment that accompanies change, we can still hold tight to God's promise that He will never leave us, nor forsake us.
So we will all go through it at some point... sadness, stress, loss, heartbreak and disappointment. God doesn't say that it will be easy, but by seeking comfort in the Lord, our sorrow and burdens will be lifted.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." (NLV)
God doesn't intend to hurt us. He intends to shape us through every trial. He is shaping and molding our faith and dependence on Him alone.
Although it hurts and sometimes the pain can be overwhelming, God will strengthen us. If we trust that He will never forsake us, then why pray out of fear?
God will bring us through it.. always!
