Praying for Your Children's School Staff

I have always believed in the incredible power of prayer, but little did I know that my decision to pray for my children’s school staff would lead to a series of remarkable blessings.

When our children begin a new school year, our prayers tend to shift a little. We pray for their protection, education, and overall well-being as they integrate into a new classroom environment. Certainly, these are wonderful prayers to pray, but what about extending our petitions to include our children’s school staff?

I remember a story about a mom who was struggling with her child’s school administration, but instead of approaching the situation with criticism, she decided to pray for every staff member for 30 days. She kept a personal journal of her prayers and petitions and recorded the blessings that followed. Here’s what she experienced:

Praying over Panicking

I have always believed in the incredible power of prayer, but little did I know that my decision to pray for my children’s school staff would lead to a series of remarkable blessings. This personal account is a testament to the wonders that unfold when we put our trust in God and commit everything to Him.

It began when my children entered a new school for the first time. Like any parent, I was filled with excitement, nerves, and a genuine desire for them to have the best experience possible. However, we encountered a few unexpected obstacles that filled my heart with concern.

The school administration appeared exhausted and overwhelmed, constantly dealing with budget cuts and understaffing issues. This affected not only the teachers but also the students’ well-being and overall academic performance. Witnessing this, my natural instinct was to take matters into my own hands and remove my children from the school. However, my husband and I sensed God was asking us to wait…and to pray.

So, each day, for the next 30 days, I would drop the children off and sit in my car praying for wisdom, guidance, and God’s intervention. I prayed that every school staff member would be strengthened and equipped to lead every student with their best in mind. I prayed for the budget, the staffing, and the education my children would receive.

Seeing the Blessings

Within a couple of weeks, I noticed subtle changes within the school environment. Conversations among parents shifted from frustration to hopefulness. Communication between parents and teachers was constructive and less critical. Helpful solutions were offered instead of heated accusations. It was as if there was a renewed sense of purpose and unity amongst the school staff.

By the end of the 30 days, I was so overwhelmed by God’s blessings that I asked a few more parents to join me in heartfelt prayer. Over the course of the first semester, the blessings continued to unfold and the sense of community grew. The school became a place where everyone felt valued and the students began to thrive. The prayers have continued, and through God’s grace, my worries and fears have been replaced with joy and peace.

How You Can Pray

If you’re inspired by this story, and wonder how you can best support your children’s school staff, begin with prayer. If possible, find a list of names that includes administrators and teachers, as well as supportive staff members such as custodians and cafeteria workers.

I suggest praying over four specific areas: strong leadership, wholesome curriculum, safety, and unity. Be sure to keep a journal of your prayer requests and record God’s blessings. If you’re led, ask other parents to join you. And remember, when two or more are gathered in the name of Jesus, He is with them! (Matthew 18:20)

Feel free to print the following prayers to take with you. Every day, when you kiss your children goodbye, take a few minutes to read through one of these prayers, believing God will answer. He is faithful to give wisdom to those who ask, but we must believe and not doubt.

Here are four prayers for your children’s school staff:

A Prayer for Strong Leadership

Heavenly Father, You know how important it is for schools to have strong leadership. I come boldly to Your throne asking You to do a mighty work in the leadership of my children’s school staff. I pray for every administrator to make the best decisions possible for every teacher, student, and family. May they be motivated by a genuine love for education and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Most of all, Lord, please turn their hearts to You, to honor Your name and fix their minds on what is good, holy, and just. Help them lead with gentleness and grace, displaying patience and kindness to everyone. Let my children feel secure under their leadership, happy to go to school to learn new and exciting things. I entrust my children into Your loving care as they navigate their educational journey under the guidance of these leaders. May they be inspired, challenged, and motivated to embrace learning, knowing that they are surrounded by educators who genuinely care for them. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.

A Prayer for Wholesome Curriculum

Gracious God, I pray over my children’s curriculum today, asking that everything they learn will be wholesome and beneficial to them. Please remove any lessons that are contrary to Your truth and give the staff the insight to detect harmful information. I know that You care deeply about what goes into my child’s mind and heart, so I ask You to protect them from every harmful thing. Please provide the resources needed to create a wholesome environment that fuels curiosity and inspires my children to learn. Give them a hunger to explore, discover, and retain what they need to know for life. Guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and lead them in the way they should go. In His name, amen.

A Prayer for Safety

Holy God, please place Your hedge of protection around my children’s school. Let the entire campus be a safe place for everyone who gathers there. I pray specifically for the staff to put in place every safety measure possible to ensure the well-being of teachers, students, and faculty. Please send Your guardian angels to fight in the heavenly realm, pushing back the darkness and letting the light of Jesus shine through. We trust You, Lord, with the safety and wellbeing of our children, as well as every staff member. Thank You for being our refuge and fortress. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

A Prayer for Unity

Lord, I ask for unity among my children’s school staff members, praying that they will work together to create a healthy environment for every student. Through every decision, bring them to a place of agreement and harmony. Remove all combativeness and bring every argument into obedience to Your authority. Truly, we want peace in our children’s schools, and it begins with the staff. Lord, please let Your peace flow over them, leading to a calm, inviting atmosphere where our children are able to focus on what’s most important. Thank You for bringing everyone together - parents, teachers, students, and staff. We long to be unified in purpose and believe that You created us to carry out Your will. Your desire is for us to have unity with You and with each other. Help us recognize the value of working together for the good of our children. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.
