The first time I successfully read the Bible completely through, I used a translation I had been hearing about, but had never tried. I have always read the King James Version of the Bible, and all of the Bible verses I had ever memorized were from that translation. However, I started to have a problem in that I was almost too familiar with the words so that I was missing the heart of the message. Does that make any sense?
I had to read the Bible with a new translation in order to really see the words again. When I did this, the Bible truly came alive for me. I'm certainly not saying anything is wrong with staying with one translation. However, if you're not reading that translation or it is hard to be excited about it, then give another translation a try. I love to even compare the different translations for a single verse -- it's pretty eye-opening!
If you want to read your Bible but aren't sure where to start, I encourage you to give this Bible a try. The New Living Translation One Year Bible is very easy to read and is broken down into passages so that you can read the entire Bible through in a year. Each day's reading contains passages from the Old Testament, the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs -- all timed for just 15 minutes a day! ... and I love this Bible because it's PINK. What can I say? ;)
